I just came back from the most fascinating lecture ever. It was on the Funeral. We learned all about the embalming process, decomposition, and rituals. We watched a person get embalmed, which was quite disturbing at first, but then you got used to it. The entire lecture was filled with images of dead people. I'm thinking about Funerial Services as a possible career choice if I don't make it in music. Its only a two year program. The only thing that I would have to get used to is embalming people. I would have to get more comfortable around dead people. I have an irrational fear about death. Its not like I'm going to hurt the dead person by embalming him and he's not going to hurt me (atleast not physically) cuz he's dead.
We also talked about decomposition. The guy said that in Southwestern Ontario, bodies, after a year and a bit are no longer recognizable, except for maybe some bone material. That comforts me somewhat. I never saw my grandfather's body after he died. I was too afraid to. But, now, I have an idea what he looks like (he's been dead for two years).
Another thing, that you might find a bit disgusting, is that all the fluid and such drained from the dead bodies during the embalming process ends up in the sewer systems. Meaning, that one day, you might be drinking bodily fluids from a dead person. Cool, eh? Happy drinking
